Welcome to Papa Bear Enterprises.
A celebration of the life of George S. Halas. He had many roles in his lifetime: son, husband, father, friend, Papa Bear, Mr. Everything, but my personal favorite is grandpa. As a youngster I couldn't really appreciate all that he accomplished in his life. It is only with age that I truly understand the amazing man that was my grandpa, George Halas.
He was and is my biggest hero not for creating American Professional football but for the way he lived his life. I'd like to share a portion of a letter he wrote me in 1980 "...When we were youngsters my mother had each of us sit down at the end of the day and quietly think about our actions for that day. What did we learn? Did we help someone? Did we show our love and respect for each other? What did we do that could have been done, or should have been done, better? Did we honestly feel satisfied and proud of our actions for this day, keeping in mind that we could never relive one moment of that day? And of paramount importance, did we thank God for giving us the day?"
George Halas was a man of integrity, a man of honor and a man of courage. He believed in God, America and serving his fellow man. Not only did he believe these things, he lived them everyday of his life with his actions.
As the months go by, I hope you will share your memories of George Halas on this website whether you were the youngster asking him for his autograph, or as a former player or a fan. Thank you.
